Europe: a Knowledge & Science Bridge Towards a Global Circular Economy

 

On the occasion of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, CECOLAB (Collaborative Laboratory for Circular Economy) organized the first major International Conference on Circular Economy, to take place in Portugal.

Entitled "Europe: a Knowledge & Science Bridge Towards a Global Circular Economy", the conference took place on the 20th and 21st of April, 2021.

With the support and presence of 25 internationally renowned experts, the goal of the conference was to contribute to the increased cooperation between Europe, Africa and Latin America, in the field of Circular Economy.

The Welcome Session was in charge of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Professor Doctor Manuel Heitor, and the closing session of the Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Professor Doctor Ana Abrunhosa.

Meeting the major priorities and action lines of the Portuguese Presidency the conference featured the following Focus Areas and Milestones:

Focus Areas:

  • Green Global Europe;

  • Knowledge and Science: the power of moving towards Circular Economy;

  • Green Funds and Financial Instruments;

  • Regional Symbiosis and International Knowledge Exchange;

  • Young Generation; and

  • Circular Economy contribution to a Sustainable Economic Recovery Post-Covid 19 and Emerging Markets.

Milestones:

  • Circular Economy International Cooperation Agenda leaded by Europe and bilateral cooperation's;

  • Increase the financial market and opportunities for small and flagship projects in Circular Economy;

  • Territorial cohesion and regional symbiosis between European Countries & Africa and South of America; and

  • Promote knowledge and the responsibility of Young People in Circular Economy.

Ladeja G. Košir hosted a round-table discussion with the young enterpreneurs who are pathing the way to the new circular future. The young generation left us with some inspiring food for thought:

Our biggest capital is the human capital – let’s not waste it.
